Connect OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT ads)

Read your ChatGPT ad campaigns with an Advertiser API key: spend, clicks, conversions and each ad's review.

Get an API key from OpenAI Ads Manager

  1. Open OpenAI Ads Manager and pick the client's ad account.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Create an Advertiser API key.

Name it “MetricDeck”, so you can tell it apart later.
  4. Copy the key.

Each key reaches exactly one ad account. For several ad accounts, create a key in each and connect them one by one.

Add it to a project

  1. Open the project, then Sources → OpenAI Ads.

You can also start from Connections → OpenAI Ads → Add account, which asks for the project first, or during getting started.
  2. Paste the key and choose Check key.

MetricDeck asks OpenAI which account the key reaches, and shows its name, ID, currency, timezone and brand review. Nothing is saved yet.
  3. If it's the right account, choose Connect account.

The last 90 days come in straight away; after that it syncs by itself every night.

What MetricDeck reads

  • Spend, impressions, clicks and conversions for every campaign and every ad, every day.
  • Each campaign's status, lifetime budget and what it has spent since it began.
  • Each ad's title, text and review status, and the account's brand review.
  • From those it works out click-through rate, cost per click, cost per 1,000 impressions and cost per conversion.
Read-only: MetricDeck never changes anything in your ad account. The key is encrypted, sent only to OpenAI's Ads API, and never shown again, not even to you.

Good to know

  • Currency and days. Numbers stay in the ad account's own currency and timezone. They're never converted, or added to Google Ads numbers in another currency.
  • Conversions need conversion tracking set up in OpenAI Ads. Without it, MetricDeck says it isn't set up rather than showing zero as if it were real.
  • Today's conversions arrive tomorrow. OpenAI reports conversions for whole days only, and they keep arriving for up to 30 days after a click, so MetricDeck re-reads the last 30 days on every sync.
  • No sales value or ROAS. OpenAI's API doesn't report conversion value.
  • Alerts tell you when a campaign's lifetime budget is about to run out, ads are rejected in review, the brand review stops the account from showing ads, or money is spent with no conversions.

Changing or removing the key

  • If the key is revoked or deleted in Ads Manager, Connections shows Key not working. Create a new key for the same account and use Update API key. A key for a different account is refused, so the project's numbers never mix.
  • Disconnect on Connections deletes the key and the synced data. Revoke the key in Ads Manager too, so it stops working everywhere.

Questions

Do I need an OpenAI account with API access?

No. The Advertiser API key comes from OpenAI Ads Manager, where you run your ChatGPT ads. It's separate from the keys on OpenAI's developer platform.

Can one project have both Google Ads and OpenAI Ads?

Yes. Each shows on its own tab, and the Overview, alerts, AI summary and reports read both.
