Connect your data

Connect Microsoft Clarity

Find the pages where visitors struggle: errors, rage clicks, turn-backs, with a Clarity Data Export API token.

Get an API token from Clarity

  1. Open Microsoft Clarity and pick the client's project (the one on their website).

The site needs Clarity's tracking code already installed. If it isn't, add it first: Clarity is free.
  2. Go to Settings → Data Export.

Only an admin of the Clarity project sees it.
  3. Choose Generate new API token and name it “MetricDeck”.

  4. Copy the token.

Each token reaches one Clarity project, which is one website. For several clients, make a token in each client's project.

Add it to a project

  1. Open the project, then Sources → Microsoft Clarity.

You can also start from Connections → Microsoft Clarity → Add Clarity, which asks for the project first.
  2. Paste the token and choose Connect Clarity.

MetricDeck asks Clarity for the last day's visits and checks they're on the project's website, so one client's numbers never land in another's project. Then the first sync starts.

What MetricDeck reads, and what it does with it

  • For the site and each page, every day: visits, pages per visit, scroll depth and time per visit.
  • The share of each page's visits with JavaScript errors, clicks that set one off, rage clicks, dead clicks, quick backs (straight back where they came from) and hunting scrolls.
  • The same split by traffic channel, so paid visits are judged apart, and by phones and computers.
  • From those, the Clarity tab's What to fix: each page problem, why it costs the business, what to do first and, when the project has Google Ads, about how much ad spend went into paid visits that hit it.
  • Errors, rage clicks and paid visitors turning straight back also become alerts, and the AI summary names them.
Read-only. Clarity's API shares only these totals: no recordings, heatmaps or anything about a single visitor. The token is encrypted, sent only to Clarity, and never shown again. To watch the visits behind a problem, open the page's recordings in Clarity.

Good to know

  • History starts the day you connect. Clarity's API only shares the last 24 hours, so each nightly sync stores one more day. The Clarity tab judges the last 7.
  • Quiet pages aren't judged. A page needs 20 visits in those days before its numbers count: below that, one visit swings a percentage.
  • Three requests a night. Clarity allows 10 a day per project. If you also use its API elsewhere and run out, that night's day is fetched the next night.

Changing or removing the token

  • If the token is deleted in Clarity, Connections shows Token not working. Generate a new one in the same Clarity project and use Update API token. A token for another Clarity project is refused.
  • Disconnect on Connections deletes the token and the synced data. Delete the token in Clarity too, so it stops working everywhere.

Questions

Is Clarity free?

Yes. Microsoft Clarity is free, with no traffic limit. MetricDeck reads it on every plan.

Why not just look at Clarity?

Clarity shows every recording and heatmap; MetricDeck tells you which page to look at and why, next to what the same visitors cost in Google Ads, for every client in one list.
